AP’s project for ‘The Coach House’ in Balzan has been shortlisted in the New & Old – Completed Buildings Category at World Architecture Festival (WAF), the most popular and prestigious awards for excellence in Architecture. Making the shortlist in the category with the highest number of submissions is a great achievement for AP who was shortlisted in the same category last year with Villa Castro, a project in collaboration with Jens Bruenslow, and had won the Transport Category with the Barrakka Lift in the 2013 edition of the Festival. Moreover the practice has had projects shortlisted in the last few years, including the experimental project for an Instant Domestic Enclosure in Malaysia, the new Farsons Brewhouse, offices on St. Barbara’s Bastions in Valletta and Corporate Village.

Projects from 81 different countries have been shortlisted for the 2018 awards and world-leading firms including BIG, OMA and Zaha Hadid Architects are among those on the shortlist.

AP will present the project at the festival which this year will take place in Amsterdam, between the 28th and 30th November 2018, and during which winners will be selected and announced.

The Coach House has also recently won the Din l-Art Helwa Awards for Architectural Heritage, both in the Restoration and Regeneration category and the overall Silver Medal, signifying the best in all categories.

David Drago, an Executive Director at AP, commented “The Coach House is the result of an approach which combines vernacular building technologies with contemporary design and which takes into account the needs of today’s highly-demanding environment while preserving our unique built heritage”. He also thanked the clients and all the people involved in the project, “This is the product of the passion they have for their work. We hope this project will serve as a relevant case study on how we can preserve our built heritage while keeping it alive”.
